Delegate Voting Procedures For The Delaware Democratic Party

There has to be policies and procedures to be followed in order to choose delegates for the Delaware Democratic Party.  First, the state of Delaware is allowed so many delegates and so many alternates.  The process to select delegates goes by the guidelines as stated in the Democratic Party’s Charter and Bylaws as set forth. 

When the plan for the delegation selection is complete, it has to be approved according to the rules of the Democratic National Convention and Bylaws group.  If there are any revisions or additions to be made, the State Chairman of the Delaware Democratic Party is authorized to do that.  The revisions or additions have to be done and resubmitted within 30 days of the initial notice. 

After the revised plan has been resubmitted, it will be approved by the appropriate personnel.  In order to select a certain number of delegates for the state of Delaware, there has to be a primary.  As far as the delegate selection procedure is concerned, all voters who are interested have to be registered as a Democrat.  They also have to support someone or have not decided yet.  This authorization is not legitimate until their signature is there. 

If they are registering to vote, the person must put their political party affiliation on the applications.  They can only vote for one candidate; for example, they can only vote for one person for President of the United States, even though there may be more than one name on the ballot.  They must vote for the person that matches their party affiliation.  If the person is of another party affiliation, they will not be allowed to vote in the primaries.    

The Delaware Democratic Party does not require anyone to pay in order to vote.  However, they do accept voluntary donations for the Party.  Donations that are given to the state’s Democratic Party will be used for costs associated with party affiliated conventions and related business.  It will also be used for those elected delegates who are financially challenged.

The Delaware Democratic Party does not allow persons who are voting in Democratic elections to vote for candidates in other party affiliations (i.e. Independent, Green Party, etc.)  If the first meeting involves the choosing of delegates, people are only allowed to vote in one meeting.

The Party is also responsible for making sure the voting process has a smooth transition.  They are also responsible for laws and policies that ensure proper recording of all votes in the state of Delaware.  The voting systems should also include a paper backup for accuracy and confirmation. 

The Party has to make sure prior to people voting that the machines contain the highest level of security and that they’re not flawed.  This should include consistent auditing to make sure everything is working properly. 

If there is anything to be corrected, the Party should be involved to make sure those corrective measures are implemented.  The corrections should be approved and made into law by the executives of the state of Delaware.
